Artificial requires intelligence to be true to have any meaning. Yeah, take that!
(Also you were right to point that out.)
snooggums@lemmy.worldto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•"Showerthought" is a condescending termEnglish2·6 hours agoIf you flipped showers and shower thoughts in the first paragraph I think it would have worked. Not sure if the second could be saved.
For years, there has been a lot of backlash against the “objectification of shower thoughts”, which i can totally understand because it’s a “condescending” term that looks at shower thoughts like objects, not as actual places of epiphany.

Since most people don’t expect thumbnails to change based on date that approach was bound to cause confusion.
not-quite-true
Hell, not at all true. Nothing we currently have is intelligent, they are all complex statistical models that are described using misleading terms in the interest in getting the public to believe they are more capable than they are. Reasoning, learning, & hallucinations are all hyped up to make them sound intentional instead of statistical.

snooggums@lemmy.worldto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why can computers, like even very old laptops can seemingly get OS updates forever, while mobile devices hardly get a few years of updates before getting stuck out of date?English8·6 hours agoMicrosoft makes money supporting their OS on older hardware for businesses. That has gone on long enough they have to continue, and they might as well share it with everyone else.

snooggums@lemmy.worldto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What's the best way to respond to someone who says "transracial is just as valid as transgender"? (Transracial referring to people who identify as another race like Rachel Dolezal)English1·9 hours agoI don’t think this is going anywhere because you seem to think anyone can spot whether someone is black at a glance.
snooggums@lemmy.worldto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What's the best way to respond to someone who says "transracial is just as valid as transgender"? (Transracial referring to people who identify as another race like Rachel Dolezal)English1·9 hours agoThere are actually a lot of people who meet the social definition of black but are white passing by being light skinned enough and they choose not to identify as black to avoid the racism.
snooggums@lemmy.worldto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What's the best way to respond to someone who says "transracial is just as valid as transgender"? (Transracial referring to people who identify as another race like Rachel Dolezal)English2·9 hours agoI’m thinking of a situation where someone can easily pass as either race depending on context and they might change their identity based on finding out new information. Not altering their skin color or even their behavior necessarily, just how they identify.
Also, in the US race for the census and other federal data collection is based on self-identification and has been for well over a decade. A lot of people with mixed ancestry often choose one as the race they identify with based on social perceptions, like choosing to identify as black despite having a white parent where they could be both white and black because of social pressures. Or their parent raises them to identify as white because they don’t want their kid to suffer from racial oppression .
That just seems comparable as something that is imposed on someone, isn’t always accurate, has social pressure to go with first impressions, and a negative response to someone choosing how they want to identify.
Note: This does not include Rachel Dolzal (sp) who changed the color of her skin, that was definitely someone who was pretending using blackface.
That is for getting supplies, not for an old sketchy dude to warn them about not going to that cursed lake.

snooggums@lemmy.worldto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Spicy food never affects my gut and everyone thinks it's really weird. How unusual is this and what could be happening to explain why spicy food doesn't affect me?English3·10 hours agoFor me, some spices that involve oils or the seeds can give my gut a punch. For example, I like jalapeños for flavor, but too much and my gut doesn’t like it. Hotter peppers use less of the pepper for spice, so they don’t crank up the digestion. Some other spices don’t have any effect whatsoever, like dried red pepper can make my mouth burn but never upset the stomach.
I think most of it is what your body is used to, as eating more hot stuff makes it a lot less likely for my stomach to revolt about the jalepenos. But if I take a month off I’m rolling the dice.
